I’ve written and I write songs. I’ve produced and I produce records, but my quiet. My stillness. My happy place, is when I’m mixing records. It’s my passion. It’s what I’m good at and most importantly, it’s the discipline I love most in record making process.
I’ve written, produced and Mixed records for the likes of, Jax Jones, Florence and the machine, Chaka Khan, Tinie Tempah, Jess Glynne, Massego, Jessie Ware, Years & Years, MNEK, IAMDDB, Popcaan and many more
I would not call my self a technical mix engineer but more, an instinctive Mix engineer. 15 years of producing charting records have aided me in what I like to think is a deep affinity for texture, tonality and most importantly the “big picture” of a record.
When I work I deal in colours, tones, textures, temperatures, width, distance and height. I hear it, and it’s good.
My mixing ethos is most definitely rooted in the meshing of Analogue and digital tools. For me, neither is better than the other when devoid of contextual application. They are just different. Both can be useful just as both can have perceived short comings depending on where one attacks their process from.
That being said I have generally always had some sort of analogue process teamed up with plugins ITB on 90% of my mixes, be it a full SSL 4000 or just a carefully selected analogue Mix buss. I feel that gives me all the dimension and control I need to tackle everything that could arise from the demands of a modern mix
I’m currently in Phase 1 of a new studio build which will house AMPEX /Studer master tape machines. EQs by the likes of Chandler, WES Audio, Maag, and the colourful Terry CEQ. Compression from Thermionic, Dramastic Audio, SSL, and conversion from Lavry. It’s gonna be a vibe. So don’t be shy. Get in touch.
